John P. Jones III

When Leonard P. Pool, founder of Air Products and Chemicals Inc., met John P. Jones III for the first time, he was impressed by his ability to find answers to what he didn’t know. Pool put his faith in Jones, who rose to the top of the organization by age 49. Now retired from his role as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jones fulfilled various leadership roles during the years of 2000 to 2008. In all, he had a 36-year tenure with the company.
Jones’ record of achievement and sound business judgment guided the firm through numerous challenges. Declaring “no scared cows,” he sold long-established parts of the company that had become unprofitable. He drove the company to expand in Asia and invest in fast-growing, promising business lines such as hydrogen. Part of his acumen was understanding how to operate effectively within highly regulated and complex frameworks. He brings this to the board of directors at Leonard Parker Pool Institute for Health (LPPIH) as well as experience in issues facing public companies and multinational businesses, including organizational management, strategic planning and risk-management matters.
Jones currently serves on the board of directors of Automatic Data Processing Inc. He also serves on the board of trustees of The Rider-Pool Foundation.
